Wolfenbüttel-Playlist

As well as talking, learning, reading, listening, workshopping, networking, eating and drinking, there’s a longstanding tradition at the Wolfenbütteler Gespräch: dancing.
This year DJs Lang & Scheidt rocked the house for the fourth time. And thanks to a relocation of the mixing desk so that we could actually see and hear what was going on on the dancefloor, we had more fun than ever before. If you’re a literary translator who was there: thanks for making it a great night. If you’re a literary translator who wasn’t there: what are you waiting for? Sign up for next year. If you’re not a literary translator at all: sorry – although we do invite editors, you probably can’t come.
To make up for it, or to bring back happy memories, here’s a playlist of eleven songs that went down a bomb in the KuBa-Halle last night.
The Smiths, This Charming Man
Steppenwolf, Born to be Wild
Beastie Boys, Fight for your Right to Party
The Undertones, Teenage Kicks
The Specials, Stupid Marriage
Blur vs Lady Gaga, Song Face
Jan Delay, Disko
Chaka Khan feat. Rufus, Ain’t Nobody
Michael Jackson, Billie Jean
Fat Boy Slim, Rockerfeller Skank
The BPA feat. David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal, Toe Jam (parental advisory)
The night finished with the traditional chucking out ceremony and complaining session, followed by long drunken walks back to hotels. And of course Roger Miller’s King of the Road. Next year DJ Lang will be sporting the outfit from the video behind that link.
